From my personal experience as a trader who places a high priority on broker safety, I am extremely careful to verify regulation before committing significant funds. In the case of DEGIRO, I find this issue to be particularly concerning. According to the data available, DEGIRO currently does not display valid or active regulation from any of the recognized financial authorities. Despite having a presence in Europe and being registered in Ireland, there is a clear warning that no valid regulatory information exists, and WikiFX explicitly highlights that this carries a high potential risk. In practice, this lack of regulation means that clients do not benefit from the usual safeguards that come with licensed brokers, such as official oversight, compensation schemes, or mandatory segregation of client funds. For someone like me who values capital protection above all else, this is a significant drawback. While some users have reported feeling their funds are safe and have even complimented certain aspects of DEGIRO, a lack of regulatory supervision introduces a layer of risk that I personally find hard to justify. I believe anyone considering DEGIRO should be particularly mindful of the absence of trusted regulatory oversight and be aware of the additional risks this could imply to their investments.
