Based on my experience and the information I’ve gathered, DEGIRO primarily focuses on providing access to a variety of investment products such as stocks, ETFs, bonds, options, and mutual funds, rather than specializing in forex trading as many traditional forex brokers do. One limitation I’ve noticed is that their offering for direct forex pairs, like EUR/USD, isn’t clearly outlined within their platform or fee schedules. Instead, DEGIRO is more tailored towards stock and ETF trading, where commissions are transparent and generally quite low—for example, there’s no commission for US shares, but a €0.50 handling fee applies per trade. When it comes to forex trading, the typical concept of fixed or variable spreads doesn’t directly apply at DEGIRO in the way it would with a dedicated forex broker. If currency exposure occurs, such as when trading instruments denominated in a non-base currency, a currency conversion fee of 0.25% is charged. For me, this means that transactional costs are more dependent on currency conversion rather than traditional bid/ask spreads. Given DEGIRO’s lack of explicit regulatory oversight and its business model focus, I exercise particular caution when considering them for anything outside mainstream equity or ETF investments. For those who need precise, competitive spreads on EUR/USD, I would personally look at brokers with a specific reputation and infrastructure for forex trading, rather than DEGIRO.
