On August 7, global commodity markets traded cautiously as investors focused on the upcoming U.S. July Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP) Report, one of the most closely watched economic releases for assessing the strength of the U.S. labor market and the future path of Federal Reserve policy. Market consensus expects 80K new jobs to be added, compared with the previous reading of 57K.
In the precious metals market, spot gold remained well supported and is on track for its strongest weekly performance since January. Investors continue to view gold as a hedge against economic uncertainty while awaiting the NFP results. A weaker-than-expected employment report could reinforce expectations for future Federal Reserve rate cuts, providing additional support for gold. Conversely, stronger-than-expected data may strengthen the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields, limiting gold's upside.
