In 2018, I opened an account with GMI Markets through an agent to invest in foreign exchange. On August 5, 2020, the account balance showed USD 11,170,224.86. On August 14, I discovered I could not log in. Contacting customer service revealed my email and password had been altered by another party. I requested a reset but was told this required the broker's involvement. The broker denied making any changes and also could not access the account. I immediately demanded the platform freeze the account and investigate the perpetrator, but for months received only the response: “The investigation has been submitted. Please be patient.” During a video conference on March 9, 2021, GMI staff confirmed the account balance was zero and requested agent communication records (already submitted). Over subsequent years, despite repeated follow-ups (including multiple formal email complaints in December 2025), GMI only responded with “escalated to department, please be patient” or “cannot locate records,” providing no investigation reports, login logs, transaction records, or compensation. On December 24, 2025, the platform announced the cessation of all trading activities, followed by the complete shutdown of retail operations on December 31. To date, no substantive response has been provided. Independent investigations found no evidence of agent liability, raising suspicions that internal security breaches or operational errors caused the fund loss. Complaints have been filed with the Mauritius FSC and Ombudsperson, but with the platform's imminent closure, recovery of funds appears unlikely.
